DoorDash announced on September 30 that US users can join a beta for ordering by text. The assistant can search menus, build a cart, remember usual choices, handle group preferences, and complete checkout inside the text thread. DoorDash says Ask DoorDash users had discovered more than 40,000 restaurants in its first three months, based on company data.

The maker lesson is that an agent can own the handoff from intent to transaction when the interface is small. The hard part is not only understanding a request. It is keeping preferences, cart contents, substitutions, approval, payment, and delivery status visible before the system commits.

Prototype one low-risk reorder flow with explicit confirmation. Test ambiguous items, changed prices, group requests, and failed checkout, then show the user the final cart and the reason for each substitution before any order is placed.
