MOSS-Image pairs layout control with a 5B image model
MOSS-Image's 5B release supports 4K-token prompts and spatial layout control; try a fixed poster or product-card brief before you trust its text rendering.

OpenMOSS announced MOSS-Image-Base and MOSS-Image-SFT on October 16 with code and model weights available to the public. The project is a 5B text-to-image DiT model with layout control, long-prompt support up to 4K tokens, text rendering, and a native ComfyUI plugin. Its user guide supports arbitrary aspect ratios and recommends at least 50 steps, CFG 3, and Shift 5 for a starting run.
The layout input is the useful part for builders: a prompt can describe where text and visual elements should sit instead of leaving the whole canvas to chance. The repository also includes a workflow and fine-tuning path under Apache-2.0 code. Clear words in generated images still need checking, so use the model for a repeatable layout task and count corrections before replacing a current tool.
What you can do with it
Choose one fixed 1024-pixel brief with three visual elements and a short label. Run the same layout through MOSS-Image and your current generator, then score placement, spelling, retries, time, and correction work. Save the accepted output and the prompt used.
Our take
A controllable canvas can save more time than another general image model because it reduces repeated composition work. The release claims strong text rendering, but a small local test should decide if words remain usable at the sizes you sell or publish.
