Cline Cloud keeps coding tasks running after the editor closes

Cline Cloud sessions can keep running after the editor closes; assign one small repo task and compare cloud completion time with your local agent.

Cline's v4.1.25 release on October 16 adds Cline Cloud sessions on a gradual rollout. A user can run a task in a hosted sandbox against a selected GitHub repository and branch, then see its status in Recent and History. The session can continue after the editor closes and can notify the user when it finishes. The release also refreshes model defaults across several providers.

The useful change is persistence: a coding task no longer needs the editor window to stay open. It also creates a clear review unit because the task belongs to a branch. Availability depends on the rollout and account, and the release page does not publish a full cost table, so a small repository task is the right way to check the actual wait, review, and model cost before using it for larger work.

What you can do with it

Choose a small test repository and one task that can be reviewed as a branch diff. Run it locally and in Cline Cloud, then record completion time, tool failures, model use, review changes, and any setup work. Keep the cloud route only if the saved wait exceeds its cost.

Our take

Persistent coding sessions are useful when the main delay is waiting for a task, not writing the prompt. The branch link gives the result a clean review point, but the service is still rolling out. Start with a low-risk task and pin the model when repeatability matters.
