LiteLLM's v1.105.0 release adds a Decisions API at /v1/decisions and /v1/systemone, with support across eight providers and a decision-model guardrail. The release also adds Claude Sonnet 5.5 and GPT-6.1 Sol on day one, litellm.agent() for coding agents through the gateway and Lens Agent Traces. This makes LiteLLM more than a simple model switch: it can sit between an application, several providers and the records needed to inspect a run.
The release notes flag breaking changes, so an upgrade is not a free performance gain. The useful comparison is a small staging route against the current SDK or gateway: request format, spend controls, retries, trace quality and failure handling. A team can gain provider choice and a single place for logs, but it can also add another service to operate. Pin the version and keep a rollback path while measuring real requests.
What you can do with it
Clone the repository or use the documentation to run v1.105.0 in a staging project. Route one classification or ranking task through /v1/decisions, record provider, latency, cost and output quality, then compare it with your existing client. Do not upgrade the production gateway until the breaking-change list is checked.
Our take
LiteLLM is useful when a product needs several model providers but cannot afford provider-specific code everywhere. The new decision routes and agent helper make that case stronger. The risk is operational rather than theoretical: a gateway can centralize spend and traces, but a bad upgrade can affect every model call at once.
