Claude moves into Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

Claude's Google Workspace beta puts a sidebar in Docs, Sheets, and Slides and can edit the open file, so paid users can remove copy-paste from one real document workflow.

Superhuman's Oct7 report covered Claude for Google Workspace, now in public beta across paid Claude plans. The add-on opens a sidebar in Docs, Sheets, and Slides; it can read the open file, use selected text, cells, or slides, and edit in place. Separate connectors let a user start in Claude and create or edit Google files.

The official help page says one installation covers all three apps, but a Workspace administrator may need to approve the Marketplace app. The beta is useful for document rewrites, formula cleanup, data summaries, and deck edits, yet it works on the file in front of Claude rather than every file in Drive. That narrower scope is a sensible first test and a real product limit.

What you can do with it

Try the add-on on a copied Doc, Sheet, or Slides file if you have a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan. Use Ask before edits, run one short rewrite or formula cleanup, and compare the result with Gemini before enabling it for shared work.

Our take

This is a practical distribution move because it puts Claude beside work that already exists. Gemini still owns the native Google surface, while Claude must earn a place through better edits. The useful question for a small team is which assistant saves review time on its own files, not which logo is in the sidebar.
