Ascerta raises $18.1M to track enterprise AI costs

Ascerta, formerly Pay-i, says it raised an $18.1 million Series A led by Dell Technologies Capital, with Hitachi Ventures and earlier investors. The company says the round brings total funding to $23 million and targets consumption billing as AI costs grow. It also cites distribution and enterprise experience from its new investors.
For a maker, the signal is practical: token and tool use can turn a simple product into a metered service with hard questions about who pays, who gets a limit and who sees the bill. Cost control is useful only when it connects usage to a customer outcome and an action.
Instrument spend by workflow, customer and outcome before adding a billing layer. Set a budget alert, show the user what caused the charge, and test whether a cheaper model or a shorter path protects margin without reducing accepted results.
