HackerRank makes its AI interviewer generally available
HackerRank's Chakra moves technical hiring from a timed question to an observed work process. It claims more than 500,000 beta interviews, but buyers still need evidence that the richer signal improves hiring outcomes.

HackerRank announced the general availability of its Chakra AI interviewer on October 5. The company says more than 500,000 interviews ran during testing, with Snowflake, Snorkel, and Capgemini trying the product. Candidates work in a real repository and shared canvas while the system evaluates their process, critical thinking, judgement, and AI fluency rather than only the final answer.
HackerRank says Chakra combines three assessment rounds and reports 70 to 80 percent fewer suspicious-activity flags. Those figures are company claims, and the release does not show hiring-quality or retention results. A richer interview can create more data and calibration work if teams do not define a good signal.
For builders, this is an AI product that observes process instead of grading one generated artifact. The commercial test is whether hiring teams make faster, better decisions and candidates see the format as fair. A dashboard of interview activity is not enough; the outcome is qualified hires who perform after joining.
What you can do with it
Try Chakra on one role with a written scorecard and a control group using your current interview. Compare completion time, reviewer agreement, candidate drop-off, false fraud flags, and later job performance. Do not let the agent define the hiring rubric after the test begins.
Our take
The direction is right: work samples beat trivia when AI can generate polished answers. The risk is that an AI interviewer can create a more elaborate version of the same noisy filter. Its value must be proven through reviewer agreement and hiring outcomes, not the number of interviews it can run.
