SCM adds local AI search across photos and video frames

SCM is a macOS app for searching a local media library by meaning, scene, visible text and spoken dialogue. The repository describes watched-folder imports, frame-level video search, OCR, Whisper transcripts and an optional local language-model chat that cites extracted evidence. It says media stays on the machine and is not uploaded. Hacker News listed its Show HN post with 135 points and 65 comments.
The project shows how a useful multimodal product can be assembled from several narrow components instead of one general chatbot. Local indexing also gives builders a clear privacy story, while the search modes make failure easier to inspect.
A useful test is to build a small folder with photos, screenshots and short videos, then measure recall for exact text, concepts and spoken phrases. Check indexing time, storage cost and false matches before expanding the library.
