AI agents are moving into the text-message thread

TechCrunch’s October 3 survey describes a group of products that put AI agents inside text-message conversations. Caddy, Fambot, Folk, and Instinct use a familiar thread for tasks such as planning, coordination, or assistance; the products differ in their target users and operating model.
For makers, messaging removes a download and teaches users a simple command surface. It also compresses identity, consent, context, and audit trails into a channel that was designed for human conversation, so mistakes can be hard to see or reverse.
Prototype one narrow action with explicit confirmation, a visible activity log, and a clean handoff to a human. Watch retention and completed tasks, not message volume; the winning product will show that the thread improves outcomes rather than adding another noisy inbox.
